Boom in the sales of ladies footwear in America

You  may be amused to know that American women have, off late, fallen for a very unusual sort of fetish - that for shoes. Sales of women's footwear are growing at rates not seen in years, with women buying multiple pairs of shoes in a single outing.

U.S. footwear sales at department stores totaled $42 billion in 2005, a 9 percent increase over the prior year, according to the NPD Group, marketing and sales information specialists.

Shoes fell into a slump a decade ago when they became too predictable. I believe it was so because everywhere there were the same colors  and the same styles. This could not induce the people to buy additional pairs of shoes.

It was then that the shoemakers began injecting their designs with more panache. They introduced new textures, beadings and woven leather in their footwear. This was helped by the speedy production technologies and changing consumer tastes.

So if you are a businessman intent on launching your own range of products, you now know what to do to achieve grand profits. Just add a bit of that elusive thing called variety.
